Málstofa: Ný rannsókn á hreyfanleika kynslóða milli tekjubila á Íslandi 7. apríl 2026

Emil Dagsson kynnir nýja rannsókn á hreyfanleika kynslóða milli tekjubila á Íslandi sem hann hefur unnið ásamt Arnaldi Sölva Kristjánssyni. Málstofan fer fram í Seðlabanka Íslands miðvikudaginn 8. apríl klukkan 15:00. Hér fylgir ágrip rannsóknarritgerðarinnar á ensku:

We estimate intergenerational income mobility in Iceland using administrative data for cohorts born from 1965 to 1989. The rank-rank slope for earnings is 0.14, indicating high mobility by international standards. However, mobility declined modestly across cohorts, driven entirely by women, whose rank-rank slope increased from 0.10 to 0.19, while men's remained stable at 0.15. The decline was concentrated at the bottom of the income distribution. We also show that disability benefits account for the majority of the gap between earnings-based and disposable income mobility, keeping the latter stable across cohorts. Consistent with theoretical predictions on the drivers of mobility change, we document rising parental income inequality and increasing returns to graduate education, particularly for women, during the period of declining mobility.
